Employment Law Seminars - April to June 2008ASA is hosting a series of free employment law seminars in conjunction with Scottish solicitors HBJ Gateley Wareing. The events will provide an informative but practical problem-solving approach to employment law. Long Term AbsenceFollowing on from last year's successful seminar on dealing with absence management, we take another look at the always complex and difficult area of managing long term absence, with the emphasis on practical strategies and measures that should be adopted to ensure that employers remain able to effectively control employees' absences within the relevant statutory framework. Venues: GLASGOW: Wednesday 30 April 2008 at 146 West Regent Street, Glasgow Preparing and Presenting an Employment TribunalMany employment tribunal actions are lost before they begin by poor preparation. This extended evening seminar takes a detailed look at the process adopted by employment law specialists in preparing a case in the employment tribunal, from taking witness statements, preparing documentation and assessing strengths and weaknesses of a case, before undertaking a short run through one witnesses evidence in chief and cross-examination in a real life example. Venues: GLASGOW: Wednesday 28 May 2008 at 146 West Regent Street, Glasgow TUPE LegislationThe 2006 TUPE regulations introduced a number of new concepts to this always complex area of law. As well as clarifying some of the aspects of the 1981 regulations that had given rise to much litigation in the quarter century since their introduction. In this seminar we look at the basic principles of TUPE, take an overview of the legislation and examine in more detail the "new" provisions on service provision change transfers, employee liability information and transfers by insolvent companies.
